February 2017 To-Do List

With New Year’s resolutions slowly faltering in many of us you may be in need of things to do with your extra time. We have picked out a few of our favourite things happening in the Bethnal Green area this February to save you time and give you something to look forward to this month.

Awaken Exhibition – Running until 4th February – St Margaret’s house

With Trump making horrifying comments about women. So much so that a woman’s march was needed, not only in the U.S but worldwide; this exhibition is one that celebrates women and their ‘authentic self’ and aims to make women realise their inner beauty. The exhibition showcases recent work by Hannah Dudley, who uses illustrations of faces to her own journey of emotions and inner beauty. However this is not the only thing that the exhibition will consist of, Hannah will also have original portraits of some of the various women she has worked with from a number of different cultures.

Tickets: Free (you do not even need to book, just turn up!)

St. Margaret’s House, 21 Old Ford Road, Bethnal Green, E2 9PL

Judy’s Vintage fair – 12th February – York Hall

Bethnal Green is holding one of the largest vintage fairs, with affordable accessories, collectables and vintage clothing all available under one roof. Winter Dormancy – Landscape Learn –18th February – Bethnal Green Nature Reserve

It will be open to students, professionals and members of the community. During the course of this event there will be the chance to explore the nature reserves and discuss urban ecologies, local history in a very outdoorsy and active manner. Furthermore whilst tickets cost £5, Lunch!! As well as a donation to the natural reserve is included within that £5. You simply cannot go wrong with this event.

Live Music Night – 24th February – Oval Space

Whilst there is no shortage of night-life events in and around Bethnal Green, perhaps one of the most exciting happening this month will take place on the 24th of February. Oval Space will host three of contemporary house music’s brightest talents. The acts that will be there on the night include Beautiful Swimmers, who in their last time at Oval Space set the place on fire (metaphorically of course). They will be joined by Sweedish production prodigy: Dorisburg and Dutch DJ and producer Makam. With a mix of different takes on house music this is guaranteed to be a great night, with good music in a vibrant and buzzing atmosphere.

Tickets: First release £10.00, 22:00 – 06:00, 18+ event

29-32 The Oval, London E2 9DT

Live Six Nations screening – 4th Feb – 18th March – The Star of Bethnal Green

The Six Nations tournament is fast approaching and no matter where your allegiance lies it is always a captivating tournament. For all those who are fans of sport – you will know how much better watching a game packed in a room full of other people and embracing the atmosphere is. Especially when you compare it to watching it alone, or with one other person.  Hence if you want to be part of the atmosphere and enjoy the matches we highly recommend you see as many matches as you can in The Star of Bethnal Green, you can drink and watch the rugby and snack as much as you like, the perfect combination!
