Stairway to Heaven Memorial Trust works with Bethnal Green based Arboreal Architecture to remember
Earlier this month Trustees of the Stairway to Heaven Memorial Trust saw the arrival of the teak stairway in Bethnal Green Gardens, 11 years after the Bethnal Green Memorial was originally proposed. The solid teak structure will soon be craned into position next to the Bethnal Green station entrance stair where the disaster took place back in 1943.
The stairway has 173 conical lightwells cut into its roof plane, representing each of the individuals that died in the disaster nearly 75 years ago. The surnames of each of the victims are carved into the teak on the external faces of stairway. The stairway was fabricated by The Greenoak Carpentry Company with cnc engineering by Solutions in Wood, having been designed by Bethnal Green practise Arboreal Architecture.
To donate to the running costs of this very worthwhile project, please visit the Stairway to Heaven Memorial website here and click ‘donte here’, or you can text 70070 with the following code STHM43 £10

The Winter Market is bringing some festive joy to St Margaret’s House with our range of stalls including vintage clothing, hand-made jewellery, christmas cards, bathroom products, candles and much more.
Happening in our hall on December 9th from 11AM-4PM, the market is also supporting the charity WISH, with the £2 entry fee going towards this national, user-led charity that works with women with mental health needs in prisons, hospitals and the community.
Paying your entry fee is not the only way to donate to this great cause either. If you want to donate more, just choose your amount and follow the ‘Text Giving’ information here: Text ‘MRKT17 + amoun’t to 70070 (e.g. MRKT17 £3, MRKT17 £10 etc)
It’s also a Winter Market with a difference as all our sellers have an ethical approach to their craft. The products are also affordable, with a large amount being priced between £5-£10.
As well as all our amazing stalls, we’ve got some brilliant classes happening that day. At The Create Place, there will be a Herbal Blessings Clinic run by Rabiah Mali from 10AM-12:30PM.
