March 2017 To-Do List

After weathering Storm Doris and the cold weather, I am sure many of you cannot wait for the relative warmth of spring. With better warmer (hopefully) looming, there is no better time to immerse yourself in the culture of all the events Bethnal Green has to offer us this March.

You’re a Quizzard Harry – 2nd March – St Margaret’s House

The Gallery café has teamed up with Queen Mary’s Harry Potter Society in order to deliver a trivia quiz on all things Harry Potter, from the books to the films. Teams are made up of 6 people but do not worry if you are the only one of your friends who likes Harry Potter (unlikely) as the sorting hat will put you into a team, or a house rather. There will also be a cash prize for the winning team.

Tickets: £5.00 (.50p booking fee) http://www.stmargaretshouse.org.uk/whats-on/quizzard

Doors: 7pm, with a prompt start at 7.30

21 Old Ford Road, Bethnal Green, London E2 9PL

Labels exhibition – 3rd March – Oxford House

This exhibition was constructed by some very talented students from Robert Clack, who want to tackle negative stereotypes and labels through the form of art. It is an extremely inspiring exhibition and we are sure it will make a huge impact on those who come and view the exhibition. We highly recommend you come and view the exhibition and help support and encourage these young, talented students.

Include me out is a course that is open to all local people and aims to look at Christianity from the outside. The main purpose behind the course is to see if Christian faith equips people be people of inclusion. Some of the topics that will be discussed within the course include gender, ethnicity mental health, sexuality, poverty and disability. This course will be particularly helpful and interesting to those questioning the church or those who are interested in philosophical and theological debates. However, even though this course is specifically about Christianity it is not limited to just that, and if you have an interest in any of the topics mentioned or are a spiritual person then you should definitely attend even if you are not Christian yourself. The course is free and supper is provided each week.

St Patrick’s Day is always one full of colour and enjoyment, and this year promises to be no different. The Star of Bethnal Green will be decked out in green and will serve classic Irish themed cocktails and pints of Guinness along with Irish themed dishes. If you are lucky enough to have a four leaved clover in your meal then you will win a prize. If this still is not enough to convince you to go then there will also be Celtic themed games and a parade. As St Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday this year you can have no excuse to go out and enjoy everything and anything slightly Irish at The Star of Bethnal Green.
